We analyzed several revisions made of the Conquest in the twentieth century, when its status as a founding or guiding episode was understood as trauma, as a Spanish or Hispanicindigenous event, as cultural domination of the other, as a minor episode in a much larger plot, among other possibilities. Next, wepresent some recent approaches, such as the ethnogenesis, proposed by Guillaume Boccara and Federico Navarrete Linares, and the New History of the Conquest, advocated by Matthew Restall, among others. Finally, we propose an interpretation of the current paths of the Conquest of Mexico as the theme and object of historiography.
